Post Final Grades to Web Services

You've made it through the semester and now it's time to post the final grades.  Does that happen automatically once you see the final grade in ANGEL?  Unfortunately, no.  You must manually post those grades to Web Services.

Here's how:

  • Log in to Web Services
  • Hover over the Faculty drop down menu area
  • Select Grade Entry from the list (and then be patient)

The screen may take a little while before it fully appears - it will list all of your courses from the semester in a drop down list next to the My Courses area
  1. Use the drop down menu (1) and select the course you want to enter grades
  2. Go to the individual student listings and use the drop down menu (2) to select A, B, C, D, F or I... repeat until you have all of your student grades selected
  3. Once you have all grades selected, click the check box in front of Post Grades (3)
  4. To post so that the grades are received properly by the Records office, click the round green button (4)

NOTE:  Once you have clicked the round green button, if you need to change grades later you will need to contact the Records department directly so they can manually make that change for you.

As always, when you have questions or need some additional help, give one of us in ITDE a call and we'll be happy to help you!

Instructor Sheet Link from Web Services

The Instructor Sheet from Web Services is now ready for all instructors to use!  YAY!
How do you add the link?  Here's how:

  • Go to your ANGEL classroom and click the Lessons tab
  • NOTE:  If you already have a Start Here folder, go into that folder BEFORE you do the next steps!
  • Choose the Add Content link

  • From the list, look about halfway down and find the “More Options” area
  • Choose Import from Learning Object Repository

  • Find HCC Common from the list
  • Click the plus sign next to HCC Common

  • When you click the plus sign, it will list everything that is available – and by the way, feel free to choose anything on this list!
  • Notice the first on the list should be YOUR NAME
  • Click the box in front of your name (it should make a little black check mark)
  • Look to the right side of the screen and click the Copy Items button

  • A new window will pop up with a bunch of check marks – just leave everything checked and choose the Continue button
  • Now, be a little patient…

  • When it finishes, you will get a new pop up window that says the item is added
  • Click OK

  • Now click the Done button to return to the Lessons tab and make sure the Instructor Sheet was added properly

  • If you were successful, there should now be a link to the Instructor Sheet from Web Services
  • Remember, if you have questions or need a little help, feel free to contact either Jeff or Angela in ITDE and we will be happy to help you!

Couple of additional notes:
  • You may already have the Instructor Sheet in your Start Here folder so do check first!
  • The Instructor Sheet link will say it is unavailable until AFTER students are able to see the content of your class.  A little aggravating, but that's just the way it is set for the moment.  Sorry about that!

Certify your Roster

How to certify your roster
This Wingtip will give you instructions about using ANGEL to run a report for your online course and then how to go to Web Services and formally certify your course.
To begin the process, you will need to run a report in ANGEL for your online course.  Remember, if a student has entered the online classroom even ONE time, you must count them as having attended whether they have completed any assignments or not.  There are other places to note those students who are not keeping up with their work.
Go to the ANGEL classroom and choose the Report tab
Once at the Report tab, make the following choices:
  1. Change the Category  to Class
  2. Change the Report to Login Report
  3. Choose the starting date of your course - remember to include the 3 days before the actual course starts as that is when students have access
  4. Make sure the Report View is on Drill Down
  5. Click the Run button once it is all set as listed above
  6. Look at the generated report and if there is any time listed next to a student name, they have entered the online classroom.  If you see the phrase "No data" next to their name, they have not entered the online classroom and you will want to note that for the Web Services Course Certification.

Once you have run the report and know who has entered the online classroom and who has not, you will need to go to Web Services to officially certify your course roster.

Go to Web Services and key in your login and password.
If you cannot access Web Services, contact someone in Tech Support and they will be able to assist you.

Hover over the Faculty choice on the menu bar and a drop down will appear.  Select Course Roster from the list.
To find your course, the easiest way is to
  • select the proper semester term
  • choose the radio button next to "My Courses" and then
  • click the Get Courses button.
   Now, be patient a bit...

Once your list of courses appears, select the course you need to certify.  It will then display this screen.
Notice on the lower left side is a button for Roster Certification.  Click this button when you are ready to certify your course.
NOTE:  The Roster Certification button is only available during a specific time period.  If you miss the deadline for certifying your course, you will have to do a manual process.

When you click the Roster Certification button, you will see a screen similar to this.
  • If a student has entered your online class, put a check in the box next to their name.
  • If they have not entered your online class, leave the box blank.
Once you have made the proper selections, click the "I Agree" button.
NOTE:  Once you identify a student as having not entered the online classroom, they will be dropped from the course.  Be VERY careful when running the report to make sure you include all dates the students could have accessed the course!!!  Otherwise, it can become a mess!!!
After you select "I Agree" you will see a popup window which is a Certification Receipt.  You may want to print this to keep for your records.

That's it!  Your course is now Certified and the Records office will be very happy, indeed! :)

How to Submit Grades through Web Services (Not Really a Wingtip)

This is not really a Wingtip since it is not about ANGEL, but it is necessary for you to post your grades at the end of a semester on Web Services.  How do you do that?

1.  Start at the HCC website, www.hutchcc.edu   and select HCC Web Services (Faculty and Staff)

2.  Then Login to HCCWeb Services page

3.  Once you are logged in, the HCCWeb Services page will pop up.  Hover over the Faculty heading and then select Grade Entry.

4.  When the next screen appears, choose your semester and hit Go or key in your exact course ID and  hit Go.

5.  The next screen will show all of the possible classes for which you need to enter grades.  Choose the course and click Go again.

And choose the Final Grades for each student

That's all there is to it!  Remember to submit your grades to Web Services on or before the due date for the grades, please!
